Job Requirements/Description

Bluebells in Detling offers overnight short breaks for children in Kent from the age of 5 to 18 years old, who have learning disabilities and/or Autism, and will have some additional support needs. These may include health related needs, behaviours of concern, and help with every day tasks. We always support children to have fun with their friends and peers, to learn skills, make choices, and to be supported in a safe and nurturing environment, so that they, and their families, can have a break.

We are looking for someone with excellent communication skills who can work as part of a busy team as well as by their own, providing a high standard of care for the children and young people that we support. You will work using your own initiative as well as with guidance always ensuring the child/young person’s needs are kept paramount. 

As a night worker, you will mainly work alone for 1 shift of 10 hours per week, ensuring the safety and security of the children in residence whilst other staff are asleep. 

To succeed in this role, we are looking for someone who:

  • can follow care plans whilst keeping them updated
  • is willing to work shift work as part of a rota.
  • is able to create factual reports.
  • is willing to undertake training and put theory to practice.
  • takes a proactive approach to own learning.
  • communicates in an open honest manner
  • has an awareness of the Children's Homes (England) Regulations 2015
  • holds or is willing to complete the Diploma level 3/4 in Children and Young People
  • is able able to stay awake overnight ensuring the children’s safety.

This post is based in a children’s unit and therefore, this post is subject to an Enhanced Disclosure Application to the Disclosure and Barring Service.
