Role Overview

As a DT Teacher, you will be responsible for delivering engaging and interactive lessons that cover various aspects of design and technology, including product design, resistant materials, graphics and engineering principles. You will motivate and inspire students to think critically, develop problem-solving skills and apply innovative design concepts to real-world scenarios.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan and deliver engaging and challenging DT lessons that align with the national curriculum.
  • Encourage students to explore creative and technical design solutions, fostering problem-solving and critical thinking.
  • Support students in practical workshops, ensuring a safe and well-managed learning environment.
  • Develop and maintain high-quality learning materials, including the use of modern technology and CAD software.
  • Inspire students to take pride in their projects and develop transferable skills for future careers.
  • Assess and monitor student progress, providing constructive feedback to support their academic growth.
  • Promote STEM education and career pathways, encouraging students to explore opportunities in design and engineering fields.
  • Ensure all lessons are inclusive, engaging and differentiated to support students of all abilities.

DT Teacher requirements:

  • A qualified teacher status (QTS) with a specialisation in Design & Technology, Engineering, Product Design, or a related discipline.
  • Proven experience teaching Design Technology at KS3 and KS4, with a strong understanding of the curriculum.
  • Strong knowledge of resistant materials, product design, or engineering principles.
  • Excellent classroom management and behaviour management skills.
  • Experience in using modern technologies, CAD software and 3D printing is highly desirable.
  • A passion for innovation, creativity and problem-solving in the classroom.
  • Have an updated CV (with two relevant references from the last two years and covering the last ten years barring any unexplained gaps) and an enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service (or be willing to apply for one).
