About this client/child: Sarah, 8, is a cheerful girl who loves arts and crafts and is very creative. She is learning to play the piano. Her big brother, Ben, 14 is a very intelligent, articulate young man, who is interested and curious about everything. He is also musical, playing the saxophone. Ben has a diagnosis of ADHD and Autistic Spectrum Condition (ASC). Ben sometimes displays behaviour that may seem challenging, such as not wanting to get ready for school, or making inappropriate comments to strangers. They live at home with their mum and dad, and of course, their beloved dog! The children s mum is a wheelchair user. She needs general assistance, for example to help get her to the toilet or make a cup of tea. Her disability limits what she can physically do. The children s grandmother helps their mum, and around the house.

Overview of role: The day begins with helping the children get ready for school and driving them there, which can be a time-consuming process. Getting Ben ready requires patience and a consistent, firm yet fair approach. After the school drop-off, your responsibilities will include household tasks such as tidying areas used by the children, doing their laundry, or preparing batch meals. The afternoon shift starts at home with similar tasks, followed by collecting one of the children from school while their dad picks up the other. The after-school routine includes supervising homework, preparing dinner, and assisting with bedtime. During school holidays, you'll have the chance to organise engaging activities, such as trips to parks or museums, or baking with the children. You may have sole charge of the children at times, while at others, their dad will be involved. This role is a job share with one other person, with all hours and shifts agreed mutually and then fixed. The family plan to move to a fully-adapted house in the near future which will be in the same area.

Who this job would suit: This will suit a lively, outgoing female support worker, who likes to engage in some friendly banter. You ll have a good sense of humour and not take any unwanted comments from Ben personally. You ll have experience supporting children on the autistic spectrum and have a genuine love of children, and happy to be around their friendly little dog. You ll be patient, kind, flexible and adaptable, and happy to travel abroad for short holidays with the family.

What s great about this job: This job will bring real job satisfaction; you ll be helping the whole family to enjoy more aspects of family life. You ll be well supported by a Case Manager well known to Snap Care.
