Job Requirements/Description

We are seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Research Assistant with expertise and interest in the role of mechanotransduction and protein synthesis machinery to join the Tzima/Reader research group at the Centre of Human Genetics, within the University of Oxford.

The Tzima/Reader research group is at the cutting edge of developments in production of samples for structural biology using mammalian and bacterial expression systems and cell-based in vivo models of mechanotransduction. You will join a very lively and motivated international and interdisciplinary group of scientists. We use a multi-disciplinary approach that includes expertise and collaborations in bioengineering, biochemistry, structural biology, and physiology, using a combination in vitro biophysical measurements, high resolution x-ray crystallographic analyses, electron cryo microscopy (cryoEM), and cell-based fluidics studies. The group has access to a range of state-of-the-art facilities and technologies within the Centre of Human Genetics, and more broadly as part of the University of Oxford. Recent publications from the group include Nature, Science Advances, J Cell Biology

You will hold a PhD/DPhil in a relevant field (such as Biochemistry, Biophysics or Bioengineering), alongside demonstrable experience in molecular cloning and production of samples for structure/function studies. Previous experience in protein expression and purification is also required, in addition to evidence of at least one first-author research article published in a quality peer-reviewed journal. Experience in protein structure determination or modelling will be an advantage.

This is a full-time appointment on a fixed-term contract for three years in the first instance, and you will be based at the Centre for Human Genetics, Old Road Campus, Roosevelt Drive, Oxford, OX3 7BN.

Applications for this vacancy are to be made online; you will be required to upload a CV and supporting statement which explains how you meet the selection criteria for the post.

Only applications received before 12:00 midday on 22nd April 2026 can be considered. Interviews are expected to take place in mid-late April (date to be confirmed).
