• Position: Teaching Assistant
• Contract: Part time (3 day a week)
• Start date: Spring term
• Pay: 1200 - 1650 per month

Veritas Education are working with a small primary school who are looking to hire a teaching assistant to work 1:1 and as classroom support from the beginning of the spring term. Your role would involve working with students on a 1:1 basis and in the classroom on a part time contract every Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. The successful teaching assistant will work in a separate classroom with students who need additional support with accessing the learning during lessons. Experience as a teaching assistant would be preferable but not essential.

As a teaching assistant, you will work closely with parents, carers and families as a part of the wider community.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF A TEACHING ASSISTANT

1:1 Teaching Assistant support for Pupils:

• Support pupils to make good academic progress, under the direction of the teacher and Inclusion leader
• Set challenging and demanding expectations and promote self-esteem and independence
• Implement group or 1:1 interventions to support pupils who have emotional or social barriers to learning
• Establish constructive relationships with pupils, acting as a role model and setting high expectations
• Promote the inclusion and acceptance of all pupils

Teaching Assistant Support for Teachers:

• Create and maintain a purposeful, orderly and supportive environment, in accordance with lesson plans and assist with the display of pupils' work
• Use strategies, under the direction of the teacher, to support pupils to achieve learning goals
• Discuss with the teacher how learning activities are to be organised and what their own support role will be

Qualifications needs as a Teaching Assistant:

Essential:

• Good literacy skills - GCSE Grade C or above in English Language; Level 2 English or above; or equivalent
• Good numeracy skills- GCSE Grade C or above in Maths; Level 2 Maths or above; or equivalent

Desirable for a teaching assistant:

• An honours degree (preferably Upper Second) or equivalent
