Job Requirements/Description

A global corporate and investment bank is seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Sanctions Compliance Officer to join its Financial Security (FS) team in London. This role is pivotal in ensuring the bank's compliance with international sanctions regimes and financial crime regulations.

You will work within the Advisory & Governance team, contributing to the oversight of sanctions controls, risk assessments, regulatory reporting, and stakeholder engagement. Depending on experience, the role may be appointed at Vice President or Associate level.

This role is a permanent role based in the City of London (hybrid working - 3 days per week onsite) with a salary banding of £65,000 to £90,000 (dependant on experience) + bonus and an excellent benefits package.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the Sanctions Compliance Director in overseeing sanctions controls, including name screening and payment filtering systems.
  • Analyse transactions and clients from a UK, EU, and OFAC sanctions perspective, providing risk-based decisions and escalating complex matters.
  • Act as a subject matter expert (SME) for sanctions-related queries across the business and group entities.
  • Manage the annual enterprise-wide sanctions risk assessment and execute local actions as required.
  • Develop and deliver sanctions training and awareness programmes.
  • Maintain and enhance local sanctions policies and contribute feedback to group-wide procedures.
  • File regulatory reports (e.g., frozen assets reporting to OFSI) in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Liaise with internal stakeholders including Compliance, MLRO, business line heads, and Financial Security teams in Paris and other overseas offices.
  • Act as a final escalation point for payment filtering and customer screening alerts.
  • Conduct horizon scanning and gap analysis of new or upcoming regulations and enforcement actions.
  • Maintain accurate records of work undertaken in line with internal procedures.

Candidate Profile

Essential Skills & Experience:

  • Experience in a sanctions function within financial services, preferably investment banking.
  • Strong understanding of UK, EU, OFAC sanctions regimes and their practical application.
  • Experience with payments filtering and customer screening software.
  • Ability to assess complex sanctions matters and escalate appropriately.
  • Strong analytical and decision-making skills, with excellent attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively across teams.
  • Clear and concise communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Proficiency in Excel, Word, PowerPoint.
