A thriving secondary school in Clacton is looking to appoint a passionate and strategic Head of English to guide and develop. This role offers an excellent opportunity for either an ambitious second-in-department ready for promotion or an established curriculum leader eager for a new professional chapter.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide clear vision and leadership for English across Key Stages 3 and 4 (Key Stage 5 advantageous)

  • Shape and refine a broad, challenging, and inspiring English curriculum

  • Coach and develop colleagues to strengthen teaching and learning

  • Analyse performance data to inform intervention and improvement strategies

Person Specification
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) is essential

  • Degree in English or a closely related discipline

  • Substantial experience teaching English in a secondary setting

  • Demonstrable leadership experience or clear evidence of readiness for departmental leadership

  • A history of securing strong student progress and outcomes

  • Confident classroom management and strong organisational capability
