Psychology Teacher (Maternity Cover)
  • Daily Rate: To be discussed depending on experience
  • Location: Orpington
  • Job Type: Full-time, 1-year maternity leave cover starting from September

We are seeking a dedicated Psychology Teacher to join our team on a one-year maternity leave cover, starting in September. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering a broad, balanced, and differentiated curriculum to students at secondary level, supporting their overall progress and development.

Day-to-day of the role:
  • Implement and deliver a relevant and differentiated curriculum for students within the Psychology department.
  • Monitor and support the overall progress and development of students both as a teacher and a form tutor.
  • Facilitate and encourage a learning experience that allows students to achieve their individual potential.
  • Contribute to raising standards of student attainment and support the academy's responsibility to provide and monitor opportunities for personal and academic growth.
  • Engage in operational and strategic planning, including lesson planning, developing resources, and contributing to the departmental plan.
  • Participate in curriculum planning and staff development activities, including professional development and the Performance Management Review process.
  • Contribute to quality assurance activities, including monitoring and evaluating the subject area.
  • Manage information effectively, maintaining appropriate records and tracking student progress.
  • Communicate effectively with students, parents, and other stakeholders.
  • Act as a form tutor to a selected group of students, supporting the pastoral system.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • Hold QTS (Qualified Teacher Status) or equivalent and a relevant undergraduate degree.
  • Successful teaching experience at secondary level, ideally including experience in multi-ethnic urban schools and of working in an 11-18 school.
  • Understanding of the theory and practice of effective teaching and learning.
  • Knowledge of National Curriculum requirements at KS3 and KS4.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and develop positive relationships with all staff.
  • Good level of ICT skills, ideally including innovative use of interactive whiteboards.
  • Ability to create a motivating and safe learning environment for all students.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and spoken.
  • Strong leadership, time management, and motivational skills.
