Our client, a prominent entity within the Defence & Security sector, is currently looking for an SC Cleared Mechanical Engineer for a contract position outside IR35. This role demands someone capable of integrating seamlessly into project teams to provide mechanical expertise on various products and systems.
Key Responsibilities: - Assist and liaise with project teams on mechanical aspects of products and systems.
- Design bespoke equipment in accordance with defence standards to enhance modern defence capabilities.
- Select materials, manufacturing processes, and integration methods suitable for the equipment's use.
- Provide technical advice to suppliers and internal departments to ensure product compliance with design intent.
- Advise and conduct testing to demonstrate compliance with Defence and International Standards.
- Support Quality and Production to ensure components and end products meet design intents.
- Assist off-site engineers with problem-solving, troubleshooting, and integration/testing of products and systems.
- Ensure all data and design decisions adhere to best practices to maintain traceability.
- Comply with all relevant Health and Safety requirements and practices operated by the client.
- Contribute to design development and reviews to manage project opportunities and risks effectively.
Job Requirements: - A relevant engineering qualification such as a Level 6 NVQ or Honour's Degree in a numerate discipline, or equivalent industrial experience.
- Experience in an engineering or manufacturing environment would be advantageous.
- A Level 3 qualification (NVQ 3, Advanced Apprenticeship, or AS/A Level) linked to Maths and Science (Physics).
- Proficiency in English, both written and spoken, or at least to level B2 according to CEFR.
- Formal training in and experience with CAD software (Inventor preferred).
- Competence with 3D design software (Inventor preferred) and ability to create 2D drawings as per BS EN8888 or equivalent standards.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Proven ability to work across multiple projects and meet challenging timescales within a small team environment.
- A passion for practical problem-solving.
- Self-motivation, a drive to learn, and an eagerness to enhance work practices and embrace emerging technologies.
- An understanding of the importance of traceability and process in mechanical engineering.
- Knowledge of creating intuitive, modifiable parts and assemblies to facilitate ease of modification.
- Grasp of product data management systems (AutoDesk Vault preferred).
- Awareness of JIRA or similar task monitoring tools.
- Basic understanding of stress analysis using hand calculations and FEA (Nastran preferred).
