Are you an experienced and passionate Early Years professional looking to take the next step in your career? Little Bears Nursery is seeking a dedicated Third in Charge (Room-Based) to join our nurturing and vibrant setting. This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated individual to support the daily running of our nursery while leading a room-based team to provide exceptional care and learning experiences for children.

You must be at least Level 3 qualified and experience in a similar role is essential, in this case specifically working with babies.

KEY OBJECTIVES

  • Assist with the effective daily supervision of the room in accordance with the requirements of Company Policy, the Children Act 1989 and other relevant legislation, and all local authority and OFSTED requirements
  • In the absence of the Nursery Manager / Deputy Nursery Manager, assist with the overall management of the nursery
  • Ensure all agreed Company Policies and Procedures are always adhered to in the nursery
  • To be responsible for a set of keys for the nursery, in addition to opening and closing duties of the premises. To take responsibility for the security of the nursery
  • Take responsibility for the safety, security, and well-being of all children within the room

RESPONSIBILITIES

Operational

  • Be responsible for the day-to-day management of their own room, encouraging good practice by the staff team with regard to individual and group work with the children
  • To assist with the organisation of the other base rooms within the nursery.
  • Develop excellent communications with parents / guardians, encouraging them to participate in their child s progress and development
  • Observe each child s progress and report on achievements, looking for progression and continuity. Where appropriate, participate in a Keyworker system, and take a special interest in a specified number of children
  • To assist with the overall management of the nursery; including liaising with all external agencies. In particular, in the absence of the Nursery Manager/Deputy Nursery Manager
  • In consultation with the Nursery Manager, formulate, operate and evaluate an annual programme of activities, suitable for the age range of the children, following the guidelines for the implementation of Early Years foundation Stage Curriculum
  • Be responsible for creating a stimulating and attractive classroom environment and curriculum
  • In conjunction with the Nursery Manager, ensure that all required standards, ratios, and conditions of registration are maintained at all times within the nursery
  • Assist with the organisation of and attend parents meetings and open days as required. In addition to performing nursery show arounds for perspective customers
  • Assist with the preparation of the nursery for OFSTED inspections and action any recommendations made by the Inspector, in consultation with the Nursery Manager
  • In the absence of the Nursery Manager/Deputy Nursery Manager, ensure all doors are locked and lock the building at the end of day, including the setting of the alarm
  • Monitor staff s record and report keeping, including but not limited to accident forms, key children reports and risk assessments

Personal Specification

Essential

  • NNEB, BTEC, NVQIII in childcare or any other relevant qualification for this role
  • A minimum of one year's post qualifying experience with children aged 6 months to 5 years
