Head of Shafts (Civils) - Senior Project ManagerA specialist recruitment partnership is seeking a Head of Shafts (Civils) to lead the design, construction, and delivery of shaft and associated civils works within complex tunnelling projects. This role involves directing multidisciplinary teams to manage all aspects of shaft construction including temporary works, shaft sinking, sprayed concrete lining, secondary linings, and reinforced concrete structures.Key responsibilities include developing strategic plans that align with project objectives, overseeing detailed engineering designs and compliance with regulatory standards, and managing contractors to deliver high-quality construction within agreed timelines. The role requires active coordination with tunnelling activities and stakeholder groups to mitigate risks and maintain project integration.The ideal candidate will hold a degree in civil or mining engineering and have significant experience (10+ years) in heavy civil engineering, specialising in tunnelling and underground construction with a strong focus on shafts. Proven leadership in managing large-scale projects, combined with proficiency in project management tools and an in-depth understanding of safety and environmental regulations, is essential.This role demands technical expertise in tunnelling methods, temporary works design, and construction supervision.
