Technical Surveyor - Lewisham Council

Location: Lewisham, London (Hybrid/On-site)? Contract: 12+ months Rate: £29 per hour (Umbrella)

Lewisham Council is seeking an experienced Technical Surveyor to join the Accommodation Supply and Resettlement Service on a long-term contract. This is a key role providing technical expertise across housing stock, temporary accommodation, and private sector leasing (PSL) schemes.

You will:

• Inspect properties, hostels, and communal areas for leasing and redevelopment schemes.

• Advise on repairs, adaptations, and maintenance, ensuring quality and cost efficiency.

• Issue works orders, supervise contractors, and ensure compliance with procurement, contracts, and health & safety regulations.

• Lead on disrepair claim investigations, safeguarding tenants and protecting the Council from litigation.

• Prepare accurate survey reports to support property maintenance, compliance, and asset management.

• Manage repairs and maintenance budgets in conjunction with the Accommodation Supply Manager.

• Negotiate with landlords on leases, property handbacks, and remedial works.

• Contribute to reducing void times, improving long-term asset performance, and driving value for money.

We're looking for a surveyor with:

• Strong technical surveying expertise and knowledge of housing health and safety (HHSRS).

• Experience managing contractors and overseeing property repairs, maintenance, and capital works.

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to liaise with residents, landlords, and stakeholders - including in disputes.

• The ability to prepare reports, evidence, and recommendations to support compliance and service delivery.

• Attention to detail and strong record-keeping skills.
