Housing First Officer

Contract: 3-month contract (with potential extension)

Aatom Recruitment are currently seeking an experienced Housing First Officer to work on behalf of a local authority on an initial 3-month contract, with the possibility of extension. The Council has been delivering a successful Housing First service since 2017. The service supports individuals experiencing multiple exclusion homelessness, including CHAIN-verified rough sleepers and individuals living in hostels. The approach is person-centred, trauma-informed, and focused on helping people sustain long-term, stable accommodation.

Key Responsibilities

- Provide intensive, flexible, and person-led support to people with complex needs, including rough sleeping histories, substance misuse, mental health issues, and long-term homelessness.

- Work peripatetically across the borough, delivering support in clients' homes, community locations, and office sites.

- Build trusting, supportive relationships using trauma-informed and psychologically-informed approaches.

- Support clients with tenancy sustainment, welfare benefits, risk assessment, safeguarding, and navigating local services.

- Work collaboratively with external partners such as substance misuse teams, mental health services, housing providers, social care, and voluntary sector organisations.

- Maintain accurate case notes, records, and documentation using local authority IT systems.

- Manage a caseload within a small, supportive team, ensuring high-quality service delivery

Requirements

- Previous professional experience working with rough sleepers, homeless households, or individuals with multiple complex needs.

- Experience within a Housing First service or a similar intensive support model is highly desirable.

- Strong understanding of trauma-informed practice, safeguarding, risk management, and inter-agency work.

- Ability to work independently, travel across the borough, and manage a varied caseload.

- Excellent communication skills and high-quality record-keeping.
