We are working with a well-regarded Secondary School in Southend-on-Sea, rated GOOD by Ofsted, that is seeking a dedicated and inspirational Head of Science with Qualified Teacher Status (QTS). The school is committed to delivering high-quality Science education, encouraging curiosity, critical thinking and practical investigation while supporting students to achieve excellent outcomes across Key Stages 3 and 4.

Job Overview:

• This school caters for students aged 11-16.
• Full-time, Monday - Friday, Head of Science role.
• Lead and manage the Science department, promoting high-quality teaching and learning across KS3 and KS4.
• Inspire, support and develop members of the Science team through effective leadership, coaching and collaboration.
• Plan and deliver engaging, differentiated Science lessons across Biology, Chemistry and Physics.
• Monitor student progress and departmental performance, implementing strategies to raise attainment and close achievement gaps.
• Oversee curriculum planning, assessment and intervention programmes to ensure strong student outcomes.
• Create a positive, inclusive and engaging learning environment that encourages students to develop their scientific knowledge and confidence.
• Work closely with senior leaders to contribute to whole-school improvement priorities and enrichment opportunities.
• Promote practical investigation and develop students' analytical, problem-solving and critical-thinking skill.

What we're looking for:

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent.
• A degree in Science or a related subject.
• Experience teaching Science at secondary level across KS3-KS4.
• Previous leadership experience or the ambition and capability to lead a Science department.
• Strong subject knowledge across the sciences, with the ability to inspire and motivate learners.
• Excellent classroom management, organisational and leadership skills.
• Strong knowledge of curriculum development, assessment and strategies to improve student outcomes.
• A proactive, positive and collaborative approach to leadership and teaching.
• Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one).
