ROYAL BOROUGH OF KENSINGTON AND CHELSEA
London
Full Time
Permanent
Support people to live with dignity, choice and independence.
At Kensington and Chelsea, we're all in - making sure every resident gets the care, support and respect they need to live as independently as possible. As an Independent Living Assessor, you'll be a key part of that mission, helping adults stay safe, supported and confident in their day-to-day lives.
Working Style:
You'll be based in the Borough for three days a week, playing a key role in serving the local community. Whether you're working on the frontline or behind the scenes, you'll be part of a dedicated team making a real difference to residents' lives.
What you'll be doing:
You'll be part of our experienced Review Team, spending three days a week in the borough and working closely with residents who are already receiving care. Your job is to check in, reassess and make sure the support in place still fits their needs - whether it's six weeks after a service begins or part of their annual review.
You'll manage a caseload of around 20 people, completing four to five reviews a week. Each one is a chance to make sure that care plans are working - and to explore whether changes like reablement, direct payments or support from family or friends could help someone live more independently.
Sometimes, you'll carry out new assessments where people's needs have changed. You'll also offer Carers Assessments to those supporting loved ones and always be alert to safeguarding concerns, following up in line with procedures when needed.
Throughout, you'll work alongside health and care professionals - including GPs, district nurses, occupational therapists and physios - to make sure residents receive joined-up, holistic support.
For further details, please review the Job Description and Person Specification.
What you'll bring
You'll have experience supporting adults in a care, housing or community setting - perhaps as a support worker, carer or housing officer. You'll understand the realities of working with vulnerable people and bring a calm, practical and compassionate approach to your work.
You'll also need to be organised, confident working independently and skilled at juggling priorities. Good IT skills are essential, along with strong communication - especially when working with adults from a wide range of cultures, languages and backgrounds.
You don't need a formal social work qualification to succeed in this role. What matters most is your ability to listen, your understanding of what good care looks like and your commitment to helping people live well.
Why join us
At RBKC, we're all in - investing in our people, our communities and our future.
You'll be joining a warm, welcoming and long-established team, with colleagues who bring years of knowledge and experience to share. There's a strong sense of purpose here - and a belief that small actions, done well, can make a big difference.
You'll have a full induction, tailored development plan and access to training to build your confidence in the role. Whether you're already experienced or stepping into something new, we'll support your growth every step of the way.
Interview Details & Role Requirements
