Our approach is centered around supporting each student s emotional, social, and academic development, and we are looking for a passionate Lead Teacher of Science to join our team and lead the delivery of an inspiring Science curriculum that meets the diverse needs of our students.
The Role:
As Lead Teacher of Science, you will be responsible for the development, delivery, and assessment of the Science curriculum across the school. You will lead the Science department, ensuring that teaching is tailored to the unique needs of our students, many of whom have SEMH and related learning difficulties. You will work closely with the Senior Leadership Team to drive improvements in teaching and learning while supporting and mentoring other members of the department.
This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Science teacher with a passion for leadership and a desire to make a positive impact on the educational journey of students with SEMH. The role comes with a TLR (Teaching and Learning Responsibility) to reflect the leadership aspects of the position.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the Science department, overseeing the planning, delivery, and assessment of the Science curriculum.
- Develop and implement strategies to raise achievement and improve student outcomes in Science for students with SEMH and other learning needs.
- Provide leadership, guidance, and support to Science teachers, including performance management, mentoring, and professional development.
- Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of Science teaching, ensuring high standards and promoting best practices across the department.
- Adapt and differentiate the Science curriculum to ensure it is engaging and accessible for all students, particularly those with SEMH and a range of learning abilities.
- Work collaboratively with the SENCO and other subject leaders to promote an inclusive approach to teaching and learning.
- Track and monitor student progress in Science, identifying areas for improvement and implementing interventions as needed.
- Ensure that the Science department s resources are effectively used and well-maintained.
- Foster a positive and supportive learning environment, promoting students emotional well-being, self-confidence, and academic success.
- Contribute to whole-school initiatives and support the wider development of the school.
About You:
- A qualified teacher with QTS (Qualified Teacher Status) and a proven track record in teaching Science at secondary level.
- Strong leadership skills and the ability to lead and motivate a team of teachers.
- A deep passion for Science and the ability to make it engaging and accessible for students with SEMH and diverse learning needs.
- Experience in tailoring teaching strategies to meet the needs of students with SEMH, special educational needs, or behavioural challenges is highly desirable.
- Excellent classroom management skills with a creative and flexible approach to teaching.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team.
- Experience in monitoring and evaluating teaching and learning to improve outcomes for students.
- A proactive, patient, and empathetic approach to supporting students and staff.
