Ribble Recruitment is supporting a London Local Authority within Children's Services to appoint an experienced School Admissions Officer to provide long-term sickness cover within the School Admissions Team.
This is a fast-paced statutory role requiring prior experience in local authority school admissions administration.
The RoleYou will be responsible for the end-to-end administration of school admissions, ensuring compliance with statutory regulations, council policy, and legislative timescales.
Core responsibilities include:
- Managing nursery, primary and secondary admissions (standard entry and in-year applications)
- Administering coordinated admissions processes
- Processing applications in line with statutory deadlines
- Maintaining and updating pupil databases
- Monitoring vacancies and year group capacities
- Managing Fair Access Protocol cases
- Exchanging data with schools and other Local Authorities via Pan London systems, S2S and secure email
- Supporting and administering the Bexley Selection Test process (including logistics, invigilation and marking support)
- Preparing cases for admission appeals and presenting appeals (following training)
- Handling complex parent enquiries, complaints and disputes
- Monitoring children without a school place and escalating where appropriate
This role requires high levels of accuracy, organisation, and strong customer service skills when dealing with parents, schools and internal stakeholders.
Essential Requirements- Previous experience working within a Local Authority School Admissions Team
- Strong working knowledge of the School Admissions Code and relevant legislation
- Experience administering coordinated admissions and in-year transfers
- Experience maintaining pupil databases and handling sensitive data
- Ability to manage appeals processes and complex parental enquiries
- Strong organisational skills with ability to manage competing statutory deadlines
- Eligible to work in the UK
Desirable- Experience supporting selection test processes
- Experience presenting admission appeal cases
- Knowledge of Fair Access Protocol procedures
- Experience maintaining council webpages or online application systems
