Milton Keynes City Council has recently updated its ambitious targets to achieve net zero emissions for the city council by 2030 (as set out in the Pathway to Net Zero document).

We're focusing on two key areas: achieving our internal sustainability targets of net zero by 2030 and collaborating with external partners to make Milton Keynes a leading sustainable city.

We're seeking a skilled Energy Technical Officer to oversee various energy projects, including heat networks, renewable energy initiatives and building retrofit.

You'll work with both internal and external colleagues to help the city council achieve its Net Zero 2030 goal and collaborate closely with the Sustainability Lead (Council) to reduce our emissions and promote sustainability across the organisation.

This is a home-based role.

Interviews will be held on 19 and 27 June.

Main Responsibility

What to expect from the role:

• Programme management: Manage the Council's Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme funding and other capital projects aimed at enhancing building energy efficiency and developing a renewables hub.
• Technical support: Provide technical support and data analysis to other departments on energy initiatives that help promote as well as reduce carbon emissions and energy related expenditure across the council such as estate decarbonisation.
• Funding generation: Proactively seek opportunities to secure external funding to support the Council's sustainability aims.
• Communication: You will build effective relationships and achieve co-operation from others both internal and external to the Council.

Our roles are either designated 'site based' or 'home based'. 'Site based' roles can include up to two days a week working from home whilst 'home based' roles are based at home four days a week. Of course, managers designate which category roles are in based on the needs of the service and the circumstances.
