Are you a hands-on design leader with a background in managing technical design and R&D teams within a manufacturing environment?

This is an exciting opportunity to take ownership of the design function for a growing, well-established business that designs and manufactures high-quality engineered products used across the UK and beyond.

The role:In this pivotal position, you'll lead a small but talented team of CAD Designers and R&D Engineers, driving innovation and continuous improvement across existing and new product ranges.

You'll be responsible for managing workloads, ensuring designs meet customer and compliance standards, and helping shape the future of the company's product development strategy.

Key responsibilities:

• Lead, mentor, and develop the CAD and R&D team, setting clear priorities and objectives
• Oversee all product design activities from concept through to production release
• Manage design projects, ensuring deadlines, quality, and technical accuracy are achieved
• Collaborate closely with production, sales, and operations teams to ensure design intent is delivered effectively
• Drive innovation and continuous improvement in product design, materials, and processes
• Ensure compliance with industry standards, certifications, and safety requirements
• Play a key role in product development planning, budgeting, and future strategy

About you:

• Degree or HND in Mechanical Design, Product Design, or a related engineering discipline
• Proven experience leading a technical design or CAD function within manufacturing or engineering
• Strong knowledge of CAD software (SolidWorks preferred)
• A creative problem-solver who combines technical accuracy with commercial awareness
• Excellent leadership and communication skills, with a passion for developing others
