Support the North Kensington community to find and use their voices to shape futures beyond tragedy.As Speech and Language Therapist in the Grenfell Education Team, you will be working with children and young people, families, professionals, and institutions who continue to live with the impact of the Grenfell Tower tragedy. Through trauma-informed, relationship-based practice, you will work alongside the community to accurately identify needs and deliver support that is transformative, ambitious, and collaborative.
Working Style:You'll be based in the Borough for five days a week, playing a key role in serving the local community. You'll be part of a dedicated team making a real difference to residents' lives.
What you'll be doing:Your work will involve direct support for individuals and families as well as and wider influence on local schools. You'll work with children to develop their language and communication skills, using evidence-based tools, including formal standardised assessments and dynamic approaches. Your advice, information and support will enable, parents/carers and schools to promote the development of speech, language and communication skills and leave behind enhanced skills and confidence.
You will also design and deliver tailored interventions to support emotional regulation, social connection and learning. Your focus will be on restoring a sense of agency and potential - helping children and their families believe in their right to belong, achieve, and aspire. You'll work closely with teachers, parents and community partners to embed restorative, inclusive practices and to make sure the spaces around the child reflect their needs, strengths and hopes for the future.
You'll carry out comprehensive assessments that identify strengths and difficulties in expressive and receptive language, social communication, fluency, and speech sound development, ensuring targeted and effective intervention. These aren't just clinical exercises - they are acts of advocacy, helping schools, families and professionals understand what young people need to be connected, find their voices, and move forward.
For further details, please review the Job Description and Person Specification What you'll bringYou'll be a qualified Speech and Language Therapist, registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT), with experience supporting children and young people across diverse educational settings. You'll bring extensive knowledge of principles in effective working with families and schools and application to practice and wide ranging experience of operational caseload management for children with a speech and language need You'll be working creatively, listening to stakeholders' views to refine your work and influence change across the education system.
Your work will be grounded in a trauma-informed and relational approach - one that sees the whole child, understands their context, and holds space for both pain and possibility. You'll be culturally competent, with an understanding of diverse family contexts and the ability to tailor interventions accordingly as well as being skilled in trauma-informed practices. You'll understand that progress looks different for every child, and that your role is not just to identify barriers, but to open doors - helping young people feel seen, valued, and capable of building futures driven by their own ambitions. You'll be a thoughtful communicator and collaborator, able to build trust with families, schools and professionals who may still be navigating the long tail of loss and disruption.
You'll be confident working flexibly - supporting change not just for individuals, but across classrooms, families, and communities. You will rely on your strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with diverse stakeholders.
