Are you an experienced and passionate Key Stage 1 teacher ready to make a real impact? We re looking for a dedicated Year 1 Teacher to join a welcoming and inclusive South London primary school that s on an exciting journey of improvement.

About The Role:

This is a long-term role (with the possibility of becoming permanent) for a Year 1 Teacher to join a small Year 1 class of just 16 children. You ll be supported by a full-time, experienced teaching assistant and work closely with the Assistant Head to ensure the best possible outcomes for pupils.

This position is ideal for a Year 1 Teacher with strong phonics knowledge, particularly Read Write Inc, and experience supporting children with SEN and challenging behaviour.

We re looking for someone confident, consistent, and nurturing with the ability to raise phonics attainment ahead of the Year 1 Phonics Screening Check in June.

You Will:

  • Lead teaching in a small Year 1 class with diverse learning needs

  • Deliver effective phonics instruction using Read Write Inc (or similar SSP)

  • Build strong relationships with pupils and manage behaviour positively

  • Work closely with support staff and leadership to meet children s needs

  • Play a key role in accelerating pupil progress in early literacy.

About You:

We re looking for an enthusiastic and experienced Year 1 Teacher who is experienced working in Key Stage 1, and also:

  • Holds QTS or QTLS

  • Has strong knowledge of phonics and ideally Read Write Inc (RWI)

  • Is confident managing a class with SEN and behavioural needs

  • Uses a calm, consistent, and nurturing approach

  • Can create an engaging learning environment tailored to individual needs

  • Is happy to work collaboratively and be supported by leadership and a TA

  • Has an Enhanced DBS Disclosure and the legal right to work in the UK
