Job Requirements/Description

As a Design Engineer, you'll play a key part in designing and developing high-quality mechanical and electro-mechanical products. You'll work closely with senior engineers, production teams, and customers to ensure designs meet technical, commercial, and compliance requirements.

You'll also have the chance to grow your technical expertise, from CAD design and testing to risk analysis and certification.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop a deep understanding of the company's products, technology, and applications.
  • Stay up to date with relevant external technologies and industry standards.
  • Design and develop new and existing products that meet customer requirements, incorporating FMEA and risk analysis where appropriate.
  • Create and maintain accurate 3D CAD models, engineering drawings, and technical documentation.
  • Organise and support the testing and certification of products, including CE marking and performance/safety testing.
  • Liaise with suppliers and external partners to gather technical data and ensure compliance.
  • Support customer visits (alongside sales staff) to gather requirements and present technical concepts.
  • Conduct in-house testing and validation, reporting results and recommendations.
  • Prepare installation, operation, and maintenance manuals for customers.
  • Maintain and update CAD systems and design documentation to ensure accuracy and traceability.
  • Foster positive working relationships across teams and contribute to continuous improvement.

Skill Set Required

  • Graduate-level qualification in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical principles and manufacturing processes (e.g., sheet metal, machined parts).
  • Knowledge of BS8888:2017 and Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD software (Inventor preferred).
  • Experience in prototyping, testing, and risk assessment.
  • Understanding of basic electronics (advantageous).
  • Excellent communication skills - written, verbal, and visual.
  • Competent with Microsoft Office tools.
  • Enthusiastic, curious, and eager to learn.
  • Creative, detail-oriented, and a clear thinker.
  • Organised, proactive, and confident working both independently and in a team.

You'll be part of a supportive engineering team that values innovation, collaboration, and personal growth. This role offers a clear path to professional development - with the freedom to explore creative design solutions and contribute to meaningful, real-world products.

If you're looking for an opportunity to grow your design career with a company that encourages learning and rewards initiative, this is the role for you.
