About the Role:An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Housing Solutions Officer to join a dynamic and forward-thinking housing team. This is a pivotal front-line role focusing on the prevention of homelessness and the delivery of a high-quality housing service to residents in need of support and guidance.

You will manage a varied caseload, investigating individual circumstances, providing tailored advice, and making decisions in accordance with relevant housing legislation - including the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017 and Housing Act 1996 Part VII. The role requires working collaboratively with internal departments and external partners to identify sustainable housing solutions and to ensure that support and care needs are appropriately addressed.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver a proactive and professional housing advice service to those at risk of homelessness.

  • Undertake thorough investigations to determine duties owed under homelessness legislation.

  • Create and maintain Personalised Housing Plans, ensuring clients receive timely support and access to appropriate accommodation.

  • Liaise with partner organisations to address complex support needs and promote positive outcomes.

  • Conduct affordability assessments and maximise clients' income through benefits and employment support.

  • Maintain accurate casework records and prepare high-quality correspondence and reports.

  • Contribute to policy development, staff mentoring, and the delivery of training on homelessness prevention.

  • Participate in the out-of-hours homelessness rota service when required.

About You:The successful candidate will demonstrate:

  • Substantial experience in managing homelessness casework within a busy, high-pressure environment.

  • A sound understanding of relevant legislation including the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017, Housing Act 1996, and related statutory guidance.

  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to engage effectively with clients, landlords, and partner agencies.

  • Strong decision-making, organisational, and IT skills, including case management systems and data reporting.

  • Empathy, resilience, and professionalism when dealing with vulnerable individuals with complex needs.

  • A flexible approach, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Essential Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Chartered Institute of Housing qualification, NVQ in Housing, or equivalent experience.

  • Ability to travel as required.

  • Willingness to participate in an out-of-hours rota service.

  • A valid DBS check (or willingness to undertake one).
