Job Requirements/Description

Contract: Full time and Fixed Term (two terms - Autumn '26 and Spring '27)
Required from: September 2026

We are seeking an outstanding Teacher of History to join a forward-thinking, highly skilled, and welcoming department that delivers a rich, challenging curriculum to bright, curious young historians. With superb in-house staff development programmes and a wealth of support through the GDST, we are well placed to develop Early Career Teachers and more experienced teachers alike.

As a Teacher of History, you will help students develop independence, curiosity, and confidence through a department wide ethos rooted in understanding the past, equipping them with strong analytical skills, respect for diverse viewpoints, and the ability to construct well reasoned arguments.

Through the study of History at Putney students gain not only an understanding of the past but of the world in which they find themselves today. In our teaching, we place significant importance on the role of debate and discussion, developing a deep enjoyment of academic challenge, and engendering a passion for uncovering the past.

The same commitment to debate and discussion permeates our Politics lessons, alongside an enjoyment of the fast-changing nature of the study of politics. This approach, and our thriving Politics Society, contributes to the ongoing popularity of A-Level Politics. Although being able to teach Politics is not a requirement for this position several of the department teach both subjects and so the opportunity to teach this aspect is possible.
