Room Leader
REPORTING TO:
Nursery Manager
MAIN PURPOSE:
To offer children a safe, secure, caring and supportive environment, providing opportunities to foster their growth and development within the Nursery, ensuring that their physical, social, emotional, educational and play needs are met. To work as part of a team with the other members of staff in order to provide an enabling environment in which all individual children can play, develop and learn. To build and maintain strong partnerships working with the parents and other members of staff to enable each of the children's needs are met.
In addition to the above, you will be required in conjunction with the Nursery Manager to assist with provision and deployment within your designated room; to cover in the Nursery Manager's absence with deployment and monitoring of staff within your room; to direct staff and any temps, designating them specific tasks and checking periodically that they are completing these tasks; working out the lunches and allocating paperwork time for staff.
Specific Responsibilities:
- Open and close the Nursery and complete a Morning or 'End of day' check as required.
- Assist, support and liaise with the room leaders/ Managers in the smooth running of the nursery.
- Complete daily room and garden risk assessments.
- Support staff in their practice, and by monitoring observations and planning.
- Participate in supervisions and mentoring of practitioners
- Report any possible Sen concerns or other concerns of delay of child development to the SENco's and Managers.
- Set out stimulating activities for children.
- Take responsibility for own Key group, observe and plan for them, linking these to the Early Years Foundation stage.
- Ensure staff ratio and head counts are being done throughout the day.
- Ensure the room environment is ready for new children settling. Complete or liaise with others to ensure the child has a snack card, photo on Key person display board, nappy box and self-registration card.
- Complete a Transition meeting with parents of your new Key child and complete relevant documentation i.e. contact card details and Transition sheets.
- Support own Key child during transition and support all other (Key persons) children during transition.
- Welcome and greet parents and visitors.
- Ensure you set a good example to other practitioners by being a positive role model. Support all staff and engage in cohesive, positive working practices.
- Attend staff meetings, parent's evenings, inset days and relevant courses.
- Maintain and complete own Key children's journals and implement termly Key person sheets.
- Arrange staff lunch breaks.
- Delegate and organise team locations within the room
- Complete a yearly audit of equipment, toys and resources
- Work closely with practitioners of each room to ensure smooth transition of children from each room moving up accordingly.
- Work alongside the Managers and other room leaders to ensure the philosophies are fulfilled
- Advise the Nursery Managers of any concerns in relation to the children, parents, and the safety of the environment.
- Ensure confidentiality is upheld at all times in relation to information regarding the children, their families, and other staff members.
- Be familiar with and adhere to the Nursery's policies and procedures at all times.
- Adhere to and work in line with the Nursery's values, contributing to the success of the Nursery's vision.
- Be flexible within working practices of the Nursery, sharing in any other duties and responsibilities such as cleaning equipment, preparing snacks, domestic tasks etc. as required from time to time, that will assist in the day-to-day running of the Nursery.
- Be accountable for the delivery of the above responsibilities and tasks.
