Director of Admissions - Prestigious Independent School

Contract: Full Time, Permanent (Regular UK & international travel required)Salary: Competitive, commensurate with experience

We are partnered with a prestigious independent boarding school to appoint an experienced and strategic Director of Admissions. This is a key leadership position, responsible for shaping and delivering the school's admissions strategy at a time of growth and development.

The Director of Admissions will oversee the full admissions process from enquiry to enrolment, ensuring a professional and welcoming experience for all families. The successful candidate will act as a persuasive ambassador for the school, lead a well-established team, build feeder-school relationships, and contribute to the school's wider strategic aims, including an expansion of Sixth Form provision and increased access through bursaries.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the Admissions team and own the admissions strategy, presenting plans to the Governing Body and Senior Leadership.
  • Devise targeted recruitment campaigns for the Sixth Form and international markets and expand feeder-school relationships.
  • Oversee the full admissions journey - outreach, open days, tours, assessments, interviews, offers and conversion monitoring, ensuring a warm and rigorous experience.
  • Use data and KPIs to forecast rolls, report to Headmaster and Governors, and support financial planning with the Bursar/Director of Finance.
  • Maximise the impact of bursary provision by working closely with the Bursary Advisory Group to widen access.
  • Ensure compliance with UKVI (student visas), ISI, GDPR and safeguarding best practice.
  • Line-manage Registrars and admissions staff, build a high-performing team and collaborate closely with Communications & Marketing.

The successful candidate will have:

  • Degree level (or equivalent) with significant senior experience in pupil recruitment/admissions - ideally in the independent boarding sector or with a strong feeder-school network.
  • Proven track record of developing and delivering strategic plans, comfortable presenting to governors and senior leaders.
  • Strong commercial awareness; numerate and skilled in using data/CRM systems for forecasting and reporting.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to represent the school confidently to prospective families and partner institutions
  • Experience of international recruitment, UKVI compliance, and working with bursary/scholarship processes is highly desirable.
