Job Requirements/Description

We are looking to appoint a Safeguarding Business Manager who will lead the implementation of several significant projects in the safeguarding area, including preparation and support of an independent audit in June 2026, implement processes and monitor performance for all elements of the work of the team to ensure that work is carried out in a timely fashion, gather data and draft reports for governance meetings as required, and to be first point of contact for information requests and reports.

We are committed to the development of safeguarding practice across the Diocese to ensure the service is operating effectively and in line with recognised best practice. This role is crucial to this ongoing development, enabling strong quality assurance and risk management. The role will also ensure that support structures in place across the Diocese for survivors are also prioritised.

The recent publication of the Jay Report and Wilkinson Review will, along with the findings of IICSA and PCR2 (the links to the reports are on page 2), shape the growth and development of Safeguarding practice across the Church of England. It is a time of change, and this is an opportunity to influence and support this change for the Diocese of Southwark.

This is an opportunity to build on your experience of working in administration at a high level, project management, and your ability to apply legislation, policies, procedures and good practice, preferably in relation to the safeguarding and protection of children/adults.

Your experience of collaborating with a range of people, 'managing upwards', and supporting a small team of experienced professional staff is important for success in this role. Also essential is your ability to manage and analyse complex and sensitive information, and implement systems to monitor and report performance, matched with being a clear and effective communicator, with excellent written and verbal communication skills.

If this sounds like the role for you, and you are empathetic to the mission and values of the Church of England, and want to use your skills in a way which contributes to a safe, healthy, and welcoming church in south London and east Surrey, then we would love you to apply.

This is post is for a fixed term until September 2026 in the first instance.
