Start Date: April 2025

MLK Education Search are pleased to be supporting this specialist school that supports young girls with various needs related to SEMH and SEN, in the search for a Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to start as soon as possible.

Rated as a Good school from Ofsted, they provide education, nurture and support across key stages 3 and 4 and are looking for a passionate HLTA to join a vibrant and growing school. The role is varied, and will require an adaptable, flexible, and resourceful individual able to cope in a high-pressure environment and deal with constantly changing priorities.

All students have not had successful experiences in a mainstream school environment, many of whom have not been in school or educated for some time. Some have a phobia about attending school which in turn has had a negative impact on self-esteem and engagement.

As there are varying levels of ability, extra support is needed in class through both 1:1 and smaller groups, to ensure the highest quality of teaching, suitable for each individual's pace of learning.

Main Purpose

  • Undertake work and responsibilities in line with the Standards for Higher Level Teaching Assistants
  • Contribute at a higher level in supporting pupils' education.
  • Work with greater autonomy in advancing pupils' learning, for example, in identifying suitable materials and managing tasks within the framework set by the teacher or SENCo.
  • The role will require some small group teaching under the direction of a SENCo, Deputy Head and/or subject leads.

Desirable Experience and Qualifications:

  • GCSE Grade C or equivalent in English and Maths
  • Level 4 HLTA qualification or commitment to undergo training after probationary period
  • Successful experience of teaching small groups/individuals, supporting students through accredited subjects (e.g. Functional Skills, GCSE)
  • Successful experience of working with students with behavioural, emotional and social difficulties
  • Planning and monitoring progress of individual/small groups and identifying interventions to raise attendance of pupils using data to provide key insights.

If you are passionate about making a difference to the lives of young people and enabling them to shape their own future, then please APPLY NOW!
