The aim is to be the best housing needs service in the country, delivering a trauma-informed, empathetic, and legally compliant approach to every interaction.

This frontline role supports vulnerable residents, many of whom present with complex health, social, emotional, or financial needs. You will play a key part in delivering the spirit of the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017, ensuring customers receive coordinated, consistent, and compassionate support from the moment they enter temporary accommodation until they move on to a permanent home.

Key ResponsibilitiesEnd-to-End Support for Homeless Households
  • Provide a full temporary accommodation service for households to whom the council owes a statutory homelessness duty-this includes both families and single applicants.
  • Deliver a coordinated support pathway from initial placement into temporary accommodation through to successful move-on into permanent housing.
Temporary Accommodation Management
  • Manage a caseload of households placed into temporary accommodation where homelessness applications are under investigation or have been accepted.
  • Contact new occupants within two weeks to ensure they have settled in and that all relevant benefits and payments are set up correctly.
  • Conduct regular property visits to monitor accommodation standards, health and safety compliance, and continued occupancy.
  • Maintain proactive, ongoing communication with customers and keep accurate and detailed case records.
  • Monitor performance of managing agents, ensuring minimum standards are upheld and arranging corrective actions when needed.
  • Maintain up-to-date voids information, and work closely with allocations teams and providers to fill social housing voids promptly.
  • Complete all required administration for new placements and moves within temporary accommodation.
  • Arrange and coordinate transfers to alternative temporary accommodation where required, including suitability assessments, interviews, and sign-ups.
Income Maximisation & Financial Support
  • Support customers to submit and maintain housing benefit claims.
  • Refer residents to specialist advice and support services to help maximise income and manage debt.
  • Assist customers in applying for Discretionary Housing Payments.
  • Maintain accurate household information on homelessness applications, updating databases to ensure records remain current.

  • Skilled in working with vulnerable customers, using a trauma-informed and empathetic approach
  • Highly organised, able to manage a varied caseload and meet tight deadlines
  • A confident communicator with strong problem-solving skills
