INVESTMENT OPERATIONS SPECIALIST
Salary: £50-60kLocation: London
A leading London-based investment manager is seeking an Investment Operations Specialist to join their highly regarded and supportive Operations team. This opportunity offers you the chance to work at the heart of a globally respected, employee-owned firm managing approximately $50 billion in assets for institutional clients worldwide. You will play a pivotal role in ensuring seamless business processes across the full investment management lifecycle, supporting portfolio management, compliance, risk, and client servicing teams. With a focus on operational excellence and technology-driven transformation, this position provides broad exposure to all aspects of investment operations, including data management, trade support, corporate actions, and workflow automation. If you are looking for a role that combines technical challenge with meaningful impact in a dynamic setting, this could be the perfect next step in your career.
What you'll do:
Support and liaise with the trading and foreign exchange teams in post-trade activities by working closely with brokers and custodians to facilitate settlement and resolve any issues that arise. Oversee daily operational processes to ensure accurate and timely flow of critical data across internal systems and between stakeholders throughout the business. Monitor, reconcile, and maintain core operational data such as transactions, positions, and valuations to uphold data integrity standards. Manage corporate action events and proxy voting workflows to guarantee timely elections and effective communication with relevant parties. Collaborate with internal teams including Compliance & Risk, Portfolio Managers, Client Services, Investment Analytics, Implementation, and Technology to support comprehensive operational requirements. Work directly with third-party service providers such as brokers, custodians, fund administrators, information vendors, and software vendors to ensure smooth external interactions. Play an integral role in the adoption of new technology within the Investment Operations Team by assisting with system transitions and process improvements. Participate actively in workflow optimisation initiatives aimed at increasing automation and reducing manual intervention across operational tasks. Assist in maintaining robust operational controls while enhancing risk management procedures to safeguard against financial or reputational loss. Contribute meaningfully to key technology projects by adapting quickly to new processes and collaborating effectively with colleagues.
What you bring:
A minimum 2:1 degree or international equivalent is essential for this position as it demonstrates your academic capability and commitment to learning. Proven experience working within operations or middle office functions in financial services- ideally covering areas such as data management, corporate actions, trade support, foreign exchange or account administration- is highly desirable. Strong analytical skills combined with critical thinking abilities enable you to approach complex problems methodically while maintaining high levels of diligence. A technology-focused mindset allows you to effectively use, manage, and understand various technological systems relevant to investment operations. Familiarity with financial instruments including equities, fixed income products, derivatives as well as knowledge of investment operations processes is advantageous but not mandatory. Advanced proficiency in Excel is required; experience using data management tools or investment systems such as Bloomberg or FactSet would be beneficial. Experience working with accounting platforms is preferable as it supports efficient reconciliation processes within the team. Excellent communication skills paired with strong interpersonal abilities empower you to interact constructively at all organisational levels both internally and externally. Demonstrated ability to manage key relationships collaboratively while being deadline-conscious ensures successful delivery even when priorities shift or ambiguity arises. Holding an IMC qualification is considered an advantage but is not essential for application.
