Do you want to help transform London's waste management landscape and accelerate the transition to a Circular Economy?
The Mayor of London is inviting applications for the position of Board Member on ReLondon's Board of Directors (London Waste and Recycling Board).
The Mayor of London and ReLondon (a partnership of the Mayor of London and London's local authorities) is committed to improve waste and resource management in the capital and accelerate our transition to a low carbon circular city. ReLondon's mission is to make London a global leader in sustainable ways to live, work and prosper by helping London waste less and reuse, repair, share and recycle more.
Over the last fifteen years, ReLondon has helped provide additional recycling capacity in London; helped local authorities provide efficient waste services; and, against a backdrop of declining recycling rates nationally, helped London maintain its recycling performance. ReLondon works with a multitude of individuals and organisations in London, across the UK and around the world, and has become recognised as a world leader in Circular Economy thinking and practice.
ReLondon is looking to develop and diversify their income streams to include more commercial offers and paid for services, as well as targeted statutory funding. This is an area of work which needs growth in order to be financially sustainable and deliver against statutory objectives. It is a significant challenge and so we are seeking leaders in this field to bring their knowledge, skills and experience of developing successful income streams in similar organisations in the public or NGO sectors.
Main purpose of the role
ReLondon's Board develop the overall strategic direction of ReLondon (the London Waste and Recycling Board); promote ReLondon's vision, values and culture and to help ensure the implementation strategic plans; and provide good governance and make strategic decisions on the allocation of resources.
The Board is responsible for developing strategy, providing good governance and directing ReLondon towards achieving its mission. They are advised by the Strategic Resources Committee on financial and people matters but decisions are made by the Board.
You will need to attend four formal Board meetings per year, plus occasional workshops to develop the organisation's strategy and business plans. Meetings will be a mix of hybrid and in person.
Whilst you do not need to be an expert in circular economy or waste and resources, interest and a passion to tackle climate change will be required.
