Job Requirements/Description

Experienced SEND Teacher - Early Years Centre (Farley Hill, Woodley)

  • Location: Farley Hill, near Woodley
  • Contract: Temp to Perm 2 Days per Week (Thursday & Friday)
  • Duration: Until December 2025, with potential for permanent job share

A specialist SEND school in Woodley is currently seeking an experienced and confident teacher to join their Early Years Centre in Farley Hill on a supply basis for two days per week (Thursday and Friday). This opportunity is offered on a temp-to-perm basis, with the potential to transition into a permanent job share role.

The Farley Hill site is a smaller satellite centre comprising five classes, each with approximately eight pupils and five staff members. Pupils are carefully grouped by age, needs, and abilities. Many are non-verbal, some present challenging and dangerous behaviours, others have complex medical needs, and many require personal care support, including toileting and nappy changing.

About the Environment

The centre is designed to support sensory and emotional regulation, featuring:

  • Outdoor playgrounds
  • A soft playroom
  • Sand and splash rooms
  • Breakout spaces for calming and sensory support

Pupils at this site often experience difficulty with self-regulation and may become overwhelmed by sensory stimuli such as noise, light, and visuals. Staff must be skilled in recognising these triggers and supporting pupils to manage their responses in a safe and nurturing way.

What They're Looking For

Due to current staffing challenges, the school is seeking a teacher who can hit the ground running and has:

  • Proven experience supporting pupils in the Early Years age range with special educational needs and disabilities
  • Confidence working with non-verbal children and those with complex behavioural and medical needs
  • The ability to lead a class group, not just support individual pupils
  • Strong communication skills and a collaborative approach
  • A commitment to safeguarding and inclusive practice

Candidates with mainstream SEND experience may be considered if they have worked extensively with groups of pupils with high-level needs.

Important Travel Information

The Farley Hill site is not accessible by public transport. The walk from the main road is long, unlit, and without a footpath-particularly hazardous during winter months. Applicants must have reliable transport and be comfortable travelling to a rural location.

How to Apply

CVs are now being accepted for immediate consideration. Shortlisted candidates may be invited for a trial and interview before a final decision is made. The school is also advertising a permanent 2-day job share role at this site, and CVs submitted for the supply role may also be considered for the permanent position.

If you're an experienced SEND teacher ready to make a meaningful impact in a specialist Early Years setting, they would love to hear from you.
