An established electrical contracting business is seeking a driven and commercially-minded Electrical Quantity Surveyor to join their team. You'll play a key role in the financial and contractual management of electrical projects across commercial, residential, and industrial sectors - ensuring profitability, accuracy, and compliance from tender through to final account.
Key Responsibilities- Prepare and manage project cost plans, bills of quantities, and tender submissions for electrical works.
- Review tender documentation, identify scope gaps and commercial risks, and advise on pricing strategy.
- Source, negotiate, and evaluate subcontractor and supplier quotations.
- Track project costs and variations, preparing interim valuations and progress reports.
- Produce monthly cost/value reconciliations and forecasts to completion.
- Administer contracts (JCT/NEC), ensuring compliance with terms and proper documentation of changes.
- Support procurement activities - raising orders, managing budgets, and monitoring delivery schedules.
- Conduct site visits to verify works, take measurements, and ensure cost accuracy.
- Prepare and agree final accounts, resolving any outstanding commercial issues.
- Work collaboratively with project teams to ensure commercial objectives are met.
RequirementsEssential:
- 3+ years' experience as a Quantity Surveyor within electrical contracting or MEP services.
- Strong understanding of electrical installations - containment, cabling, power, lighting, and distribution systems.
- Proficient in cost management, tendering, and valuation processes.
- Good working knowledge of JCT or NEC contracts.
- Numerate, analytical, and confident in Excel and QS software tools.
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
- Based within commutable distance of Romford and willing to attend London/SE sites when required.
Desirable:
- HNC/HND or degree in Quantity Surveying, Building Services, or related discipline.
- 18th Edition or prior trade experience in electrical works.
- Experience with Countfire or similar measurement software.
- Knowledge of value engineering and project cost optimisation techniques.
