SpLD Assessor & Support Tutor

Purpose of the Role:
  • To teach, assess, and support learners with various Specific Learning Differences (SpLDs).
  • To organize, assess, and process Exam Access Arrangement (EAA) Assessments, guiding students from referral to EAA confirmation.

Teaching and Learning Responsibilities:
  • Teach a range of courses and actively participate in the selection, interviewing, admission, and tracking of students.
  • Develop curricula based on national guidelines, local needs, and employment requirements.
  • Create learner-centered teaching strategies to improve retention, achievement, and progression.
  • Design syllabuses, schemes of work, and measurable learning outcomes.
  • Provide consistent feedback to students and maintain high standards of discipline and monitoring.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to enhance the overall learning experience.
  • Participate in external courses, conferences, and ongoing professional development.
  • Contribute to course evaluations and engage in reviews for improvement.
Person Specification:
  • A degree or equivalent qualification.
  • A teaching qualification, level 7 SpLD qualification, and a current Assessment Practising Certificate (APC).
  • GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Mathematics (grade 4 or above).
  • Experience supporting learners with additional needs, learning difficulties, and/or disabilities in post-16 or further education.
  • Experience teaching and supporting students with SpLDs and disabilities.
  • Proven experience in carrying out EAA Assessments and SpLD screenings.
  • Ability to prepare educational materials and resources, including assistive technology.
  • Understanding of inclusive learning strategies and flexible learning environments.
  • Awareness of students' pastoral and academic needs, and a sensitive approach to addressing them.
  • Knowledge of additional learning support funding processes.
  • Strong teamwork and collaboration skills.
  • Knowledge and commitment to equal opportunities and inclusive education policies.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of relevant legislation, including the Equality Act 2010, SEND Code of Practice, and Education, Health, and Care Plans (EHCPs).
