Trustee (Voluntary) - Disability Assist

Location: Kent (with opportunities to attend meetings remotely or hybrid)

Time Commitment: Attendance at Board meetings (currently held six times a year), AGM, and occasional subcommittee meetings.

About Disability Assist

Disability Assist is a user-led charity, run by disabled people for disabled people. Rooted in the Social Model of Disability, we champion independence, choice, and inclusion for disabled adults across Kent and Medway. Our dedicated team offers practical support, information, and advocacy services, enabling disabled people to take control of their lives and access the resources they need.

We're guided by five core values:

The Role

We're seeking up to four new Trustees who will:

• Provide strategic oversight: Shape and guide our future direction, ensuring alignment with our mission and values.
• Monitor performance & governance: Maintain high standards of accountability, financial sustainability, and regulatory compliance.
• Champion EDI (Equality, Diversity & Inclusion): Help embed inclusive practice throughout our charity's leadership, services, and partnerships.
• Support the CEO and staff team: Offer appropriate challenge, feedback, and encouragement to foster continuous improvement.
• Act as Ambassadors: Promote Disability Assist's vision, fundraise where appropriate, and build relationships across the community.

This is a voluntary position, offering you a unique opportunity to help transform the lives of disabled adults across Kent. We welcome interest from both seasoned board members and those seeking a first trustee role-your lived experience, empathy, and passion for inclusion are what matter most.

About You

We encourage applications from people of all ethnic, socio-economic, gender identity and faith backgrounds, particularly those who identify as disabled, have lived experience of disability or those who champion disability rights. The following skills or interests would be especially valuable on our Board:

• Finance: Strategic financial planning, risk management, or accounting.
• Commercial acumen, marketing, or communication: Business growth, strategic marketing, or brand-building experience.
• Fundraising: Exploring new income streams, donor engagement, or grant applications.
• Health & Social Care: Knowledge of disability rights, accessibility, or the social model of disability.

The Process

The closing date for applications is 31st March 2025 with initial interviews taking place soon afterwards.

Shortlisted candidate interviews, held by Trustees, will take place in mid-April.
