School Caretaker/Maitenance person

• Job Type: Full-time, 52-week contract
• Hours: 37 hours per week, Shift Patterns: 07:00-15:00 and 09:00-18:00
• Start Date: W/c 18th August
• Salary: £25,584 - £27,711 - could be temporary to permanent also.

We are currently recruiting two experienced Caretakers / Maintenance Operatives for a busy school site in Reading. This hands-on role is ideal for skilled individuals with a strong background in general maintenance, repairs, and site support.

Day-to-day of the role:

• Conduct general maintenance tasks including plumbing, carpentry, painting, and decorating.
• Manage site security: unlocking/locking buildings, setting alarms, and responding to call-outs.
• Handle room setups, portering, and grounds maintenance.
• Supervise contractors to ensure work meets safety and quality standards.
• Perform ad hoc cleaning, drain clearing, and rubbish collection.
• Maintain pool and minibus (training provided).
• Replenish hygiene supplies across the site.
• Support car park supervision and ensure safe arrival/departure of students and visitors.
• Operate commercial cleaning and maintenance equipment.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

• Practical skills in carpentry, plumbing, and general repairs.
• Physically fit and comfortable with manual tasks including lifting and ladder use.
• Ability to prioritise tasks in a busy environment.
• Experience in a school or similar setting is desirable.
• Strong awareness of health & safety and safeguarding practices.
• Flexible and reliable, with a proactive approach to problem-solving.
• Enhanced DBS required.
