LSE now seeks to appoint a new Chair of Council to lead its Governing Body at a time of significant opportunity and challenge for higher education. The Chair will provide strategic leadership and ensure the Council fulfils its responsibilities for the governance of the School, supporting LSE's mission and values while navigating a rapidly changing external environment. This is a role for an individual of exceptional calibre who brings proven leadership experience at board level in complex organisations, ideally as Chair, and a record of guiding transformation and strategic decision-making. They will demonstrate a deep commitment to higher education and research, and an appreciation of the distinctive role of the social sciences in advancing society. Strong governance expertise and a clear understanding of the division between executive and non-executive responsibilities are essential, as are personal authority and integrity, together with the ability to act as an ambassador for LSE and engage effectively with diverse stakeholders nationally and internationally.

The successful candidate will combine superb interpersonal and communication skills with independence of mind and the gravitas to command respect across the LSE community and beyond.
