Are you an experienced Electrical Design Engineer looking for an exciting opportunity to lead and innovate? UKPN Services is seeking a talented Principal Electrical Design Engineer to join our dynamic team at our Gatwick office. As a permanent employee, you will report to the Systems Design Manager and play a crucial role in delivering technical excellence across our contracts portfolio.

Job Purpose: As the UKPN Services technical lead, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality designs for Gatwick Airport and other clients. You will ensure compliance with relevant legislation, client, and UKPN Services standards, and lead a team of engineers to produce top-tier design solutions. Your role will involve technical liaison with suppliers and clients, creating new business opportunities, and ensuring successful project delivery.

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Develop and oversee the delivery of electrical infrastructure designs
  • Provide technical input to the team and UKPN Services bids
  • Ensure robust design solutions for accurate tender submissions
  • Lead in developing business opportunities and preparing proposals
  • Assess cost/benefit trade-offs and support technical decision-making
  • Identify areas for technological advancement while maintaining engineering standards
  • Manage design engineers for project delivery

Qualifications:

  • Degree level or equivalent in engineering or science
  • Excellent knowledge of power distribution, electrification, protection, and control systems
  • Safety management qualification such as NEBOSH certificate or equivalent
  • Membership of a professional body such as the IET
  • Chartered Engineer or working towards Chartership
  • Basic knowledge of project management

  • Promote safe working methods and systems in design
  • Mentor junior staff in Health & Safety matters
  • Communicate and implement H&S policies
