Senior Application Surveyor

Purpose of the Role To lead and supervise the housing applications function, ensuring that all applications to the housing register are processed accurately, efficiently, and in accordance with the Council's allocations scheme, housing legislation, and statutory guidance. The Senior Applications Officer will provide expert advice to colleagues, oversee complex casework, support service improvements, and act as a key point of escalation for officers and stakeholders.Key Responsibilities

• Supervise and support Housing Applications Officers, providing guidance, training, and day-to-day casework oversight.
• Register, assess, and authorise complex housing applications, making decisions on eligibility, priority, and housing need in line with legislation and Council policy.
• Act as a point of escalation for complex cases, complaints, and enquiries from service users, elected members, senior management, and partner agencies.
• Monitor the quality and consistency of decisions made by the team, ensuring compliance with relevant codes of guidance, case law, and good practice.
• Provide detailed advice and guidance to applicants, internal departments, external agencies, and housing providers regarding housing need, priority, and allocations.
• Lead on fraud prevention measures, including reviewing applications for potential irregularities and liaising with other local authorities, housing associations, and agencies.
• Produce and analyse statistical reports to monitor performance, identify trends, and support service planning and improvements.
• Contribute to the ongoing development of the Housing Applications database and associated systems, ensuring data integrity and accuracy.
• Support the Rehousing Manager in policy development, service reviews, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Promote inclusivity and ensure equal access to the housing applications service, embedding equality and diversity principles across all activities.
