Role Purpose
To lead and manage complex SEND Tribunal cases on behalf of the Local Authority, ensuring statutory compliance and high-quality case management. The postholder will represent the Council at tribunal hearings where required and deliver a solution-focused service aimed at reducing parental recourse to tribunal while safeguarding the needs of children and young people with SEN.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage a high-volume caseload of SEND Tribunal appeals, ensuring deadlines and statutory requirements are met.
- Prepare detailed case documentation, gather evidence and liaise with legal services.
- Represent the Local Authority confidently at Tribunal hearings.
- Provide expert advice on current SEN legislation, statutory procedures and government guidance.
- Work closely with parents/carers, schools, legal representatives and multi-agency partners.
- Promote early resolution and effective risk management in complex cases.
- Contribute to service development and continuous improvement.
Essential Requirements
- Degree-level qualification or equivalent experience.
- Significant experience working within a tribunal or legal framework.
- In-depth knowledge of SEN legislation and statutory processes.
- Strong advocacy, negotiation and written communication skills.
- Ability to manage complex cases and competing deadlines.
- Competent in MS Office and case management systems.
- Full UK driving license and willingness to travel countywide.
