Role Purpose

To lead and manage complex SEND Tribunal cases on behalf of the Local Authority, ensuring statutory compliance and high-quality case management. The postholder will represent the Council at tribunal hearings where required and deliver a solution-focused service aimed at reducing parental recourse to tribunal while safeguarding the needs of children and young people with SEN.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage a high-volume caseload of SEND Tribunal appeals, ensuring deadlines and statutory requirements are met.
  • Prepare detailed case documentation, gather evidence and liaise with legal services.
  • Represent the Local Authority confidently at Tribunal hearings.
  • Provide expert advice on current SEN legislation, statutory procedures and government guidance.
  • Work closely with parents/carers, schools, legal representatives and multi-agency partners.
  • Promote early resolution and effective risk management in complex cases.
  • Contribute to service development and continuous improvement.

Essential Requirements

  • Degree-level qualification or equivalent experience.
  • Significant experience working within a tribunal or legal framework.
  • In-depth knowledge of SEN legislation and statutory processes.
  • Strong advocacy, negotiation and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage complex cases and competing deadlines.
  • Competent in MS Office and case management systems.
  • Full UK driving license and willingness to travel countywide.
