Are you a hands-on engineer with a mechanical engineering background looking for a varied workshop-based role?
We are recruiting for a Workshop Engineer to join a specialist engineering business based on the outskirts of Colchester. This is an excellent opportunity to join a well-established company where you'll play a key role in the assembly, testing, servicing, and maintenance of bespoke industrial equipment.
The successful candidate will be practical, self-motivated, and comfortable working both independently and as part of a team. This role offers a varied workload and the opportunity to develop your skills through ongoing training and exposure to specialist equipment.
The RoleWorking within a busy workshop environment, your responsibilities will include:
- Assembly and packaging of specialist mechanical equipment and systems.
- Testing equipment and systems prior to dispatch (full training provided).
- Carrying out servicing, repairs, overhauls, and rebuilds of customer equipment.
- Producing reports and documentation relating to workshop projects and repairs.
- Supporting project delivery by working closely with colleagues across multiple departments.
- Assisting with stock control, goods-in, dispatch, and workshop operations as required.
- Maintaining workshop standards, ensuring tools, equipment, and workspaces remain organised and in good condition.
- Supporting health & safety, environmental, and quality procedures within the workshop.
- Assisting with the ongoing development and improvement of workshop processes and facilities.
About YouWe're looking for someone who has:
- A mechanical engineering, assembly, or maintenance engineering background.
- An engineering qualification, apprenticeship, NVQ, or equivalent practical experience.
- Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills.
- The ability to work accurately and efficiently to deadlines.
- A proactive and flexible approach, with a willingness to support different areas of the business when required.
- Good communication skills and the ability to work with colleagues at all levels.
- Basic IT skills, including Microsoft Office applications.
Desirable- Experience working with industrial machinery, compressors, pumps, engines, or similar mechanical equipment.
- A working knowledge of electrical systems.
- Forklift truck experience or certification.
