Maintenance Assistant - Ashtead Park, Surrey (Immediate Start)

We are recruiting on behalf of an established educational site in Ashtead Park, Surrey, for a Maintenance Assistant to join their busy Facilities Team. This is a practical, hands-on role suited to someone who enjoys varied maintenance work and is available to start as soon as possible.

About the Role

The successful candidate will support the day-to-day upkeep of buildings, equipment, plant and general facilities across the site. This includes basic maintenance tasks, routine checks, and assisting with the smooth running of the premises.

Key Responsibilities

• Carry out general maintenance and basic DIY tasks
• Assist with lifting, moving and setting up rooms, offices and event spaces
• Complete routine checks of plant, services and building systems
• Support pool plant operations (training provided)
• Conduct weekly fire alarm tests and monthly emergency lighting tests
• Update and close maintenance job tickets
• Act as a Fire Marshal when required
• Assist with snow and ice clearance
• Open and close buildings as part of a rota
• Liaise with contractors working on site

Health & Safety

• Maintain a safe working environment and keep tools and machinery properly stored
• Adhere to PPE requirements and safe working practices
• Report hazards and assist with compliance inspections

Person Requirements

• Practical and comfortable with manual work
• Able to work well within a team and communicate clearly
• Flexible and adaptable, with a professional approach
• Clean UK driving licence
• Willingness to work at heights (up to 15m) and in confined spaces
• Availability for occasional weekend work as part of the shift pattern
• Commitment to health & safety and safeguarding procedures

Working Pattern

• Weekly shift pattern, with some flexibility needed
• Occasional weekend work (e.g., 1 in 4 weekends) with time off in lieu
• Additional hours may be required for emergencies or operational needs
