Special Needs Teaching Assistant

A specialist SEMH provision in Bromley is seeking a resilient, proactive, and compassionate Special Needs Teaching Assistant to join a dedicated team supporting students with social, emotional, and mental health needs, often linked to trauma, anxiety, autism, ADHD, or behavioural challenges.

• Provide one-to-one and small group support to pupils with SEMH and associated needs

• Build consistent, trusting relationships with students who may display challenging behaviour

• Support teaching staff in delivering personalised and therapeutic learning plans

• Help manage behaviour calmly and constructively, using de-escalation and positive reinforcement strategies

• Encourage pupils to develop self-confidence, independence, and positive coping mechanisms

• Contribute to a safe, structured, and emotionally supportive school environment

• Experience supporting children or young people with SEMH, autism, ADHD, or behavioural difficulties

• A calm, non-judgmental approach and the emotional resilience to work with pupils facing complex challenges

• Excellent communication and teamwork skills

• The ability to model appropriate behaviour and set clear boundaries

• A commitment to inclusion, equality, and trauma-informed practice

• Qualifications such as Team Teach, MAPA, or a psychology/education-related degree (desirable but not essential)
