Job Vacancy: Management Accountant (Local Government)

Contract Duration: Contract, 3 Months

Working Hours: 37 hours per week, 09:00 - 17:00

Pay Rate: 23.20 Per Hour PAYE

Location: W8 7NX

Job Purpose:

  • To play a key role in the overall financial management of the Council by legislative requirements, Fit for the Future, and best practices. Planning, directing, and controlling the preparation and monitoring of budgets, Final Accounts, statistics and statutory financial returns, ensuring the financial integrity of the Council's accounts and Financial Management Systems and aiding financial decision-making across the Council at all levels

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • To positively support and deliver the vision, value, use, and strategic objectives of the Council's services through providing constructive and timely advice on financial matters and identifying innovative solutions as appropriate.
  • Make a major and sustained contribution to develop, drive for, ward, and implement the necessary changes to make the Council an excellent Authority.
  • Develop and maintain working relationships with top management and other senior officers, other Council services, external agencies, and peer groups working corporately and cooperatively to ensure the service is at the forefront of innovation and change.
  • Represent and promote the Council on finance issues at appropriate local, regional, and national forums and maintain and develop working relationships with professional bodies and other groups to ensure effective representation and promote meaningful networking.
  • Actively seek continuous improvement in the performance and development of the Finance Service and facilitate best value in service delivery.
  • Act as an ambassador for the Finance Team by showing professionalism, high personal standards of integrity,y and courtesy at all times. Promote this culture throughout the organization.
  • The post holder must be flexible to ensure the operational needs of the Council are met. This will include the undertaking of duties of a similar nature and responsibility as and when required, throughout the various workplaces in the Council.
  • Organise, deliver, and participate in training events to improve the skills knowledge,e and understanding of financial and non-financial managers/staff.
  • To promote fairness and inclusion across all service provision and employment through personal example, open commitment, clear action, and direction.
  • Responsible for carrying out staff appraisals including the implementation and monitoring of staff development plans, objectives and appraisal targets

Key Requirements:

  • Qualified Accountant (CCAB) or Part qualified with relevant CPD
  • Five years of practical experience in a financial services environment.
  • Previous experience working within a local government finance role is essential.
  • Proficiency in SAP and social care finance systems, including Controcc or Mosaic.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles, practices, and regulations.
  • Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
