A boots on the ground roles working as a Health & Safety overseeing and support health and safety compliance across construction, maintenance, and facilities projects within a busy university campus environment in Central London. The successful candidate will play a vital role in maintaining a safe working environment for staff, students, contractors, and visitors during ongoing construction projects.
Essential Criteria:
- IOSH Membership
- NEBOSH General Certificate (minimum); NEBOSH Construction Certificate desirable
- Experience within a Higher Education, Health Care or Public Sector environment

Responsibilities
Provide expert and professional HSE advice and assistance for a varied capital works programme.
- Conduct regular site inspections and audits to ensure compliance with UK health & safety legislation (e.g., CDM 2015, HSAWA 1974).
- Monitor contractor activities and enforce site safety rules and risk assessments (RAMS).
- Support the implementation of safety plans for construction and refurbishment projects.
- Identify hazards, unsafe practices, and non-compliance, issuing improvement notices where necessary and report them to the responsible person.
- Collaborate with university estates, facilities, and construction teams to ensure best practice in live operational environments.
- Investigate incidents, near misses, and accidents; assist in reporting and root cause analysis.
- Deliver site safety briefings, toolbox talks, and inductions to staff and contractors.
- Maintain accurate records of inspections, reports, and safety actions using digital reporting tools.
- Liaise with regulatory bodies, consultants, and contractors regarding health and safety matters.
