Mechanical Fitter (Toolmaker Background Preferred)

Salary:

• Standard Rate: £19.00/hr
• Top Rate: £20.72/hr (includes attending client sites for breakdowns, commissioning, etc.)
• Overtime: Time and a Half

About the Role:

We are currently seeking a skilled and experienced engineer with a mechanical background to join our established engineering team. This is a permanent opportunity ideal for someone with time-served toolmaking experience and a passion for building bespoke machinery, particularly for the automotive industry.

The ideal candidate will be competent in both workshop-based assembly and on-site commissioning, with the opportunity to earn the top pay rate for those willing to attend site for machine breakdowns, installations, and commissioning work.

Key Responsibilities:

• MIG welding and fabrication of mechanical structures
• Assembly of bespoke machinery to engineering drawings/specifications
• Mechanical fitting and build of special-purpose machinery
• Site visits for machine breakdowns, servicing, and commissioning (if applicable)
• Working to tight tolerances and ensuring high-quality standards
• Reading and interpreting engineering drawings
• Liaising with design and electrical departments as needed

Ideal Candidate Profile:

• Time-served Toolmaker or equivalent mechanical engineering background
• MIG welding and fabrication experience (Desirable)
• Experience in building bespoke machinery (preferably for the automotive sector)
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Comfortable working in a shop floor environment and/or on customer sites
• Flexible and reliable with a strong work ethic
• Full UK driving licence preferred (for site attendance)

Hours & Pay:

• Basic Hours:
• Monday - Thursday: 7:30am to 4:30pm
• Friday: 7:30am to 12:30pm

• Additional earnings available via overtime and site attendance
