SEND Teaching Assistant - Primary & Secondary PRU (Hackney)

Location: Hackney, London

Sector: Primary & Secondary - PRU (Pupil Referral Unit)

Job Type: Full-Time

We are looking for dedicated Teaching Assistants to support Primary and Secondary students in a Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) in Hackney. This role is ideal for individuals who are passionate about working with young people at risk of educational disengagement and committed to helping them build the skills needed for future success.

The students at this PRU are at risk of failure in mainstream education, and the school's goal is to equip them with the tools they need to reintegrate into mainstream settings or transition successfully to a new school. The majority of learners attend for a limited period, requiring staff who can quickly establish rapport, provide academic support, and foster positive learning attitudes.

Key Requirements:

  • A passion for working in alternative education settings.
  • Experience supporting young people with social, emotional, and behavioural challenges.
  • A background in education, youth work, or mentoring.
  • The ability to engage, motivate, and build resilience in students.
  • A flexible and adaptable approach to supporting diverse learning needs.

Responsibilities:

  • Providing 1:1 and group support to students in and outside the classroom.
  • Assisting with lesson preparation and activity planning.
  • Encouraging students to engage in learning and develop essential life skills.
  • Supervising students and ensuring a safe and structured environment.
  • Supporting teachers in delivering tailored learning activities.

What We Offer:

  • A dedicated consultant to support you in finding the right role.
  • Competitive pay rates based on experience.
  • A quick and efficient clearance process, mostly online.
  • Potential for a permanent contract with the school.
  • Free online training to enhance your skills.

Please note: We do not offer sponsorship for this role.
