Job Title: General Manager (Diagnostics)

Salary: £90,000 - £100,000 (Agenda for Change Band 8d, fringe)

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated General Manager to lead and manage Diagnostics services. This is a senior leadership role, offering the opportunity to shape and deliver services across a complex and dynamic portfolio, ensuring patients benefit from safe, efficient, and innovative care.

Reporting at senior level, you will be accountable for the overall operational management, service development, performance delivery and financial sustainability of Diagnostics. Working closely with senior clinicians, divisional teams, and wider system partners, you will drive improvements in access, quality, and productivity.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic and operational leadership for Diagnostics, ensuring delivery against performance targets, quality standards, and financial plans.
  • Lead multi-disciplinary teams, ensuring effective workforce planning, staff engagement, and development.
  • Develop and implement strategies to improve patient pathways, reduce waiting times, and maximise use of diagnostic capacity.
  • Oversee the delivery of service transformation programmes in line with Trust and system priorities.
  • Build strong partnerships across Integrated Care Systems, working with commissioners and providers to deliver joined-up diagnostic services.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory and governance standards.

About You

We are looking for a proven NHS leader with the skills and experience to deliver results at pace in a complex healthcare environment. You will bring:

  • Significant experience in operational and programme management at senior level, ideally within Diagnostics or a related service.
  • Strong track record of working across system partnerships, with the ability to influence, negotiate, and collaborate effectively.
  • Excellent people management skills, with experience of leading large, diverse teams.
  • Proven ability to deliver performance improvement, transformation, and financial sustainability.
  • A strategic mindset, with the ability to innovate and anticipate future service needs.
