JOB SUMMARY:
The post holder will lead on the creation and maintenance of the commercial contracts as well as supplying commercial advice and decision-making support to the Health in Justice / Integrated Urgent Care divisions. This is in relation to both new business opportunities and existing operational projects, in order to secure and maintain profitable growth through the application of robust commercial disciplines.
This position will be home based. However, the jobholder will be required to undertake occasional UK travel. This should usually be completed within the day, although may occasionally require overnight stays. Our main office is located in Reading, with other offices and operational sites located around England.
The Business
The UK's largest provider of prison health services, providing care in 59 prison serving over 30,000 UK prisoners, plus adjacent services such as Immigration Removal Centres and Liaison and Diversion services. The division has grown significantly in the last 5 years and business development continues to be a focus going forwards. The services provided to patients in this service line include primary care, mental health, substance misuse and a range of therapies.
The business is a trusted provider of key primary care services critical to national NHS strategy. It is the UK's largest provider of 111 services, operating across many areas in the South of England. It is also a provider of Out of Hours services which includes covering weekends and bank holidays. Lastly it runs two GP practices in London and Brighton.

It exists not as a competitor to the NHS, but a strategic partner, enhancing diagnostics, treatment and ongoing care for individuals outside of the publicly run NHS. The drive for quality has led to innovations in procedures and services and an improvement in the patient experience that has encouraged commissioners across the country to partner with us.
Turnover of c.£660m delivering EBITDA in the region of £50m.
Key Responsibilities
• Commercial Contracts:
Provide commercial input to specified new business projects and related contract negotiations;
Advise on drafting and negotiate the terms and conditions of contracts from tendering through to contract signing;
Provide commercial interpretation, advice and support to operational services in relation to their existing contracts.
• Property:
Provide commercial input to acquisition of new properties, lease renewals, lease exits and assist in negotiating terms and conditions, liaising with external solicitors to agree property transactions.
• Business Development:
Review and advise the Business Development Team on the commercial aspects of development opportunities during the bid evaluation and preparation, tender submission and clarification stages of new projects and schemes;
Liaise and negotiate with service commissioners to ensure that all new services have signed contracts in place ready for go-live;
Advise internal colleagues such as the Finance Director, Commercial Director, Group General Counsel of any contractual risks prior to contract signature.
• Commercial Strategy:
Assist the Finance Director - Primary Care in the development of the divisions' commercial strategy;
Have an awareness of NHS and Healthcare policy.
• Contract Management:
Provide commercial advice and support to Operations Teams and colleagues in managing and optimising existing contracts;
To assist Operations Teams and colleagues in interpreting contracts in relation to disputes and/or potential disputes in relation to service delivery.
• Relationship Management:
To develop relationships with selected internal and external professional advisors (such as lawyers, insurance brokers and finance teams) in order to ensure the most appropriate advice is given in a timely and cost-effective manner;

Experience • Good commercial experience with an emphasis on competitive tendering and contract negotiation.
• Experience of legal agreements in a project contracting environment. • Able to demonstrate knowledge of commercial contracts in a health/social care setting.
• Experience of public sector commissioning and/or service mobilisation.
Skills and Knowledge
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to explain complex technical issues in a clear and straightforward way.
• High standard of numeracy and literacy and ability to apply this to the production and interpretation of all relevant contracts and other documentation. • Some knowledge of commercial insurance.
• Has an understanding of accounting principles.
• Commitment to personal development and the acquisition of new knowledge and skills.
• Ability to demonstrate strong, proven organisation and planning skills to manage time effectively and to meet objectives and deadlines.
• Flexibility to manage a number of projects simultaneously.
• Robust working knowledge of Microsoft Office products (Excel. Outlook. Powerpoint and Word).
