Job Requirements/Description
Working with Luton Borough Council an opportunity had arisen for a Leaving Care Personal Adviser.This is a temporary vacancy ending in March 2026. This post will primarily focus on the support of young people who are classed as care leavers under the presnet legislation; however there will be occasions where you may work with young people who remain "looked after" by the local authroity.Your main duties for this role will be:1. Assessment and Pathway Planning(20%)
  • Undertake comprehensive needs assessments with young people in line with the Children (Leaving Care) Act 2000.
  • Develop and regularly review Pathway Plans, ensuring they reflect the changing needs and aspirations of young people.
  • Promote access to and engagement with education, training, employment, and social opportunities.
2. Caseload Management(20%)
  • Effectively manage a caseload, ensuring all statutory duties, departmental procedures, and best practices are followed.
  • Maintain regular contact with young people, monitoring progress against their pathway plans and adapting support accordingly.
3. Support with Accommodation and Transition to Independence(15%)
  • Provide support and guidance to young people as they move into supported accommodation or independent living.
  • Deliver practical advice and assistance to ensure a smooth transition, promoting life skills and self-sufficiency.
4. Duty Desk Participation(10%)
  • Participate in a duty rota to respond promptly to enquiries and support requests from young people.
5. Administrative Responsibilities(5%)
  • Maintain accurate, up-to-date records on all work undertaken using the Department's case management system.
  • Complete all administrative tasks in line with departmental procedures and statutory requirements.
6. Equal Opportunities and Anti-Oppressive Practice(5%)
  • Promote and uphold equal opportunities and engage in anti-oppressive practice, ensuring fair and respectful treatment of all young people regardless of background or circumstance.
7. Representation(5%)
  • Represent the department professionally in multi-agency meetings, reviews, and forums, advocating for the needs of care leavers and young people.
8. Safeguarding Responsibilities(5%)
  • Take responsibility for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of young people, responding promptly and appropriately to any concerns in line with local and national safeguarding policies.
Person Specification:Essential:
  • Experience working with young people or care leavers in a statutory or support setting.
  • Strong understanding of the Children (Leaving Care) Act 2000 and related legislation.
  • Excellent communication, organisation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage a complex caseload and work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Commitment to equality, diversity, and anti-oppressive practice.
  • Sound knowledge of safeguarding principles and procedures.
Desirable:
  • Relevant qualification in Social Work, Youth Work, Health and Social Care, or equivalent.
  • Experience supporting young people into education, employment, or independent living.
  • Familiarity with case recording systems and administrative processes in social care settings.
